Fitness Trends of 2022

I was interested in knowing what workouts and fitness regimens were still popular as we are now 16 days into 2023. During my research, I discovered that we have not yet established a list for the new year, so I was forced to dig up all of 2022's top fitness trends. Let's look at this:

The top 10 fitness trends for 2022 are:

  1. Wearable technology. Devices such as fitness trackers, smart watches, and heart rate monitors count steps and track heart rate, calories, sitting and sleeping time, blood pressure, and respiratory rate.
  2. Home gyms for exercise use minimal equipment at home, such as treadmills and bikes, for solo or family activities.
  3. Outdoor activities. Include small group walks, group rides, and organized hiking groups with participants meeting in a park, hiking area, or bike trail for short and daylong events.
  4. Strength training with free weights Barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, and/or medicine balls may be used.
  5. Exercise for weight loss. Using an exercise program in tandem with the daily routine of caloric restriction to lose weight
  6. Personal training. Fitness testing and goal setting with a trainer working one-on-one with a client to prescribe workouts specific to individual needs
  7. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) involves short bursts of activity followed by a short period of rest or recovery in a 30-minute (or less) session.
  8. Bodyweight training requires very little equipment. Not limited to push-ups and pull-ups, this trend allows people to get "back to the basics" with fitness.
  9. Live and on-demand exercise classes are available online. uses digital streaming technology to deliver group and individual exercise programs online. Available 24/7, it can be a live or prerecorded class.
  10. Health and wellness coaching integrates behavioral science into health promotion and lifestyle medicine programs. A one-on-one and small group approach provides support, goal setting, and encouragement. Health and wellness coaching is an innovative approach to promoting health and well-being

Since personal trainers and coaches—which, as we all know, are my area of expertise—remain in high demand, I'll be honest and admit that I was relieved to discover this during my research. In addition, I think fitness technology is attractive and gives us useful information about our health, such as the number of calories you consume and burn each day and your current weight, but I feel compelled to warn you all that the technology is only an estimate and cannot be completely accurate. To check the accuracy of your product, use it for two months while having your body weight (in detail) measured.

Yes, because the technology is meant to be cost-effective, but would you want to gamble with your health and wellbeing? I didn't believe that.

Low-impact exercises are also one of the burgeoning health and fitness industry trends for 2022, despite how well-liked HIIT exercises remain.

Some of the low impact exercises that remain some of the biggest trends in the fitness industry are:
  • Walking.
  • Rowing.
  • Yoga and Pilates
  • Swimming.
  • Barre.
If you are anything like me, you are probably wondering: "Barre? What in the heck is that?" I've got us covered, and Professor Google has informed us that BARRE is as follows:
"Barre is a form of physical exercise, usually conducted in group classes in gyms or specialty studios. It is distinguished from other group fitness activities by its use of the ballet barre and its incorporation of movements derived from ballet." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barre_(exercise)

Looking for a career change?

The fields of healthcare, healthcare support, construction, and personal care are expected to grow at some of the fastest rates. By 2022, these four occupational groups will likely be responsible for about one-third of all job growth, or more than 5.3 million new positions.

As a result, an increasing number of people are pursuing fitness for health and wellness reasons. Overall, I believe that the pandemic's one positive outcome was that everyone started working out, out of fear of getting sick or to build up strength after getting sick and recovering successfully!

I'll sum up this article by saying that I'm thrilled that people are becoming more and more passionate about fitness because it's one career I'd hate to give up.
